CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team concludes the 2023 season in San Antonio on Friday. The Lady Buffs take on the St. Mary's Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

All TIME SERIES
WT holds an 11-1-4 overall record against St. Mary's with a 4-1-2 mark on the road. The Lady Buffs and Rattlers met twice last season including a matchup in the NCAA Tournament. WT and St. Mary's drew the regular-season game in Canyon before the Lady Buffs defeated the Rattlers 2-1 in Dallas.
 
LAST TIME OUT
WT and Eastern New Mexico combined for 30 shots and 13 shots on goal in a scoreless draw on Tuesday. The Greyhounds dominated the stat sheet in the first half and limited the Lady Buffs' offensive chances. WT leveled the momentum in the second half but couldn't find a go-ahead goal. ENMU threatened to take the lead with a minute and a half left, but the shot went over the bar.  
 
SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
The Rattlers have an opportunity to move into the second seed for the Lone Star Conference tournament, trailing Texas Woman's by .10 points per game. St. Mary's comes off a 2-1 victory over UT Permian Basin on Tuesday in San Antonio. Shelby Paniagua leads the Rattlers with 21 points on seven goals and seven assists while Sydney Varela has matched Paniagua's goal total on the season. Rebecca Difronzo has started every game for the Rattlers and accounted for all but eight minutes on the season. Difronzo has 21 goals allowed and 52 saves on 202 shots faced for a 1.24 goals-against average and .712 save percentage.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion Dallas Baptist picked up 37 of 39 possible first-place votes and 504 points to top the poll. Angelo State followed the Patriots in the standings with 457 points. WT finished third (one first-place, 412) while Lubbock Christian (351) and St. Mary's (339) rounded out the top five.
 
St. Edward's received the sixth spot with 318 points followed by Midwestern State (299) and UT Tyler (219). Texas A&M International (182) and Oklahoma Christian (149) finish the top 10 with Texas Woman's (127), Eastern New Mexico (114), and UT Permian Basin (78) conclude the rankings.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
WT looks to retool in the offseason before the 2024 season starts in August 2024.
