#4 West Texas A&M Completes the LSC Weekend Sweep

CANYON, Texas – The #4 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to six games on Friday afternoon as they picked up a pair of Lone Star Conference victories to complete the weekend sweep of the Oklahoma Christian Eagles at Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas.
 
The Buffs head to the Hill Country next weekend for a four-game LSC series with the St. Mary's Rattlers beginning on Friday night with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
 
GAME ONE
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as Hunter Jones lifted a sac fly to left field with one out as Hank Heiselbetz tagged up to make it 1-0. WT responded with a sacrifice fly of their own in the home half with a Dylan Fesperman fly ball to the warning track in left as Kyle Micklus scored followed by RBI base hits from Seth Ochoa and Rodric Black for the 3-1 lead.
 
OC cut into the lead in the top of the third inning on a Sloan Laird two-run homerun the other way off of the scoreboard in left to make it 4-3. The Buffs manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth as Paul Wittmann started the inning with a walk before quickly stole second, the Germany product would score later in the inning on a Dylan Fesperman RBI single to right to extend the senior's hitting streak to 27 games followed by an Ochoa two-run double to make it 7-3.
 
WT added to their lead in the home half of the fifth as an Eagle error with two outs kept the inning alive followed by a Micklus RBI triple for the 8-3 advantage. OC wouldn't go down without a fight as they plated a pair of runs with one out before a flyout and a strikeout to end the game.
 
Nick Yeager picked up the win (5-1) for the Buffs, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Reese Miller picked up his fifth save of the year, registering the final two outs in the 8-5 win.
 
GAME TWO
The Buffs got on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame as Schmidt doubled down the right field line with one out to drive in Micklus and Camacho for the 2-0 lead. The Eagles responded in the top of the second on a Braden Fowler RBI double followed by a Heiselbetz single to make it 2-2.
 
WT retook the lead in the second as Camacho singled thru the left side with the bases loaded and two outs to drive in a pair for the 4-2 lead. OC cut into the lead in the third on a fielder's choice groundout by Johnny Behm to score Jones to make it 4-3.
 
The Buffs added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth on a Micklus RBI double to the wall in left field with one out to score Black followed later in the frame by a two-run double by Schmidt, OC answered in the top of the fifth with a Behm RBI single up the middle with two outs followed by a WT error with two outs to make it 7-5.
 
WT extended their lead in the sixth as Camacho doubled to right field with one out to score Micklus followed by a Fesperman two-run double inside of the third base bag down the left field line for the 10-5 lead. The Eagles cut into the lead in the top of the seventh as Braden Fowler doubled to right center to drive in one followed by a two-run single to center by Colby Feris to make it 10-8.
 
The Buffs added insurance runs in the home half of the seventh as Micklus and Camacho drove in runs on fielder's choice RBI groundouts for the 12-8 lead. OC answered again in the top of the eight on a Justin Spencer RBI single down the right field line with one out before Miller locked in and forced a pair of popups to keep it at 12-9.
 
WT added another insurance run in the eighth as Black singled to right center with two outs to score Glenn Nornonha followed by a Wittmann RBI single to center for the 14-9 lead.
 
Justice Hayes picked up the win (4-0) for the Buffs, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his 6.2 innings of work. Miller picked up his second save of the day and the sixth of the season as he allowed one earned run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his 2.1 innings of relief.
